My Mother’s Trinkets

My aunt brought boxes of my mother’s belongings for my brother and I when she visited. I sent most on to my brother to look through and enjoy before I take anything he doesn’t want, but I pulled some of the tinier things and duplicates so I can make a shadow box. Buttons, girl scout pins, little dolls, handkerchiefs… It’s all so dear to me after losing her at a young age. Has anyone made a shadow box before? I am thinking of doing one with compartments, but I could also do several small squares collage-style. Here is some vintage shadow box inspiration form around the web: Remember Charlotte? (The Baby Gardener’s Vintage Baby Bloggie) Little vintage dolls wih a …

Ready to feel more like myself…

Those who have known me before I had Jax know I had my hair in braids for nearly 10 years. It started as a way to hide the chunk of hair our puppy bit off the back of my head, but I fell in love with it. Crazy hair is part of who I am, and I haven’t felt “me” without it. When I got pregnant, I experimented using nicer synthetic hair and leaving more of the braids open at the end. That made redoing my hair much quicker, which was the goal pre-baby. When Jax arrived, I had simplified down to two rows of loose extensions braided in. I was really enjoying it that way! It added a couple …

New Car…

…Well, new to me! We traded my car for a 2008 Mazda CX-9. We wanted something larger for our road trips with 2 adults, 2 big dogs and a baby with tons of stuff!

Jax the Starbucks Barista

Halloween was fun! I sewed Jax a little Starbucks apron so he could hand out candy as a barista. It came out super cute! I cut the logo out of two venti cups and glued it on to the tiny apron and an old hat that I had painted black. He wore the uniform of khaki pants, a black polo and black shoes. His girlfriend at Starbucks gave us some tiny sample cups that he loved holding and playing with. Laura came over Halloween night and we handed out candy together. I couldn’t have done it without her! The baby definitely didn’t want me to leave his side at all, so while he was in his booster seat eating dinner, …

OBX – The Second Half

Here are the rest of our OBX weekend photos. We mostly walked on the beach, ate out and relaxed in the room. It was lovely, but too short!

OBX or Bust!

We made it to the beach!! Baby was awesome in the car. He only cried a bit when he was hungry or tired. Once he got food and sleep he was good. I brought a bottle of pumped milk for him nd pumped at the rest stop halfway for the rest of the trip. We had to waste a little time before we could check in, so we walked on the beach and had a snack at the Rundown Cafe. Dan had booked our room as “selected at check-in” for the best rate, and we got really lucky with a top-floor oceanfront king room! Really pretty view from our balcony! Since baby had a long day in the car, we …

Apple Picking

Today we went out to Crooked Run Orchard to pick apples. It was beautiful out! Jax enjoyed sitting in the grass by the trees while his daddy picked apples. We walked deeper into the orchard and Jax was able to nurse in the sunlight since no one was around. He fell asleep in his ring sling. (I love my sling! I’d love to try a babyhawk too, but it’s not in the budget.) I got Jax in his carseat still asleep, so we drove to Sonic for slushes while he napped. He woke up all smiles and had a snack before heading home. Now I need to figure out what I need to buy tomorrow to bake apple pie. Anyone …

Morning on the Farm

This morning, Jax and I went out to a farm/park in Herndon to meet up with some other moms from a meetup group. Our friends C &  baby L from yoga arrived at the same time as we did. Since we didn’t see anyone else yet, we strolled around the farm checking out all the animals. We saw lots of baby pigs. Super cute but so very stinky. Lots of stinky pig doodoo stank. It was nice out – a break from the rain we’ve had off and on. I wore cute polka dot rain boots because I have weird issues about stepping in mud. The other moms showing up later and trickled in. They were all very nice and …

Picnic Sunday

Today we met up with Dawn & Tony and little H for a picnic at a big playground not far from where we live. It was so great to see them and just hang out. Jax had a good time people-watching and even tried out some of the playground equipment (with mommy’s help).
