Jax’s First Salon Haircut

Yesterday we took Jax along to Dan’s haircut appointment so he could get one as well. He was starting to sport a baby mullet.

Just waiting for my haircut. No big deal.

He waited patiently while daddy got his haircut, but was not pleased at all when we put him in his lap and the scissors came his way! I ended up holding him and letting him play a puzzle game on my iPhone while she trimmed him up. After that the wiggling was down to a minimum.

I don’t have a good “After” photo yet, but the mullet is gone! We kept all the length on top since it is still filling in.

Happy Halloween!

After a couple weeks of sewing a half hour a night after dinner, I got Jax’s Halloween costume done! This is probably the last year I get to choose his costume. I’ve wanted to sew him a Brobee costume since last year, but it was just too much effort for a baby that wasn’t going trick-or-treating. I know Yo Gabba Gabba is a little obscure, but everyone recognizes that he is dressed as a “little green monster” just fine! When I started planning the costume, I knew I needed to have a base pattern to work with. I originally was looking at long pajama patterns, but when I figured out how much work the costume would be, I wanted to …

Fall Palette

cross posted from imagineourlife.com

I finally did my fall clothes shopping, and here is what I got! We went to Kohls, and everything was 40% off or more. Since I was tying to get less items, I chose a palette of colors I could mix and match. I went with gray, brown, natural and rust.

The sweater coat was on sale for $28. I love it! So soft and simple without being boring. I think it has the vibe of Anthropologie or Free People) two stores I CAN NOT afford! I think this sweater will go with everything. The other sweater I chose was only $13. It is a lightweight stripe in rust and natural. Really pretty and good for layering.

I really needed long sleeve layering shirts. I went with rust, brown and gray. I went up in size from xs to s to get a little more length. I hate when shirts ride up!

My “splurge” ($34) was a new pair of jeans. I’ve love my flap-pocket jeans for years, but after wearing them several times a week under my belly throughout my pregnancy, they now have a hole in the butt. I went with an indigo wash with a flared leg. I’m ready for a break from all the skinny jeans! The belt it came with looks cheap, but I don’t have to wear it.

What colors are you into this fall?

Life Snaps – October 2001

Here’s what was happening in my life 10 years ago, via my webcam. This was the first month I braided my hair after our hyper rotti mix puppy bit a chunk out of the back. October 2001

Apple Picking

Today was a super beautiful autumn day to go apple picking! We drove out to Crooked Run Orchard after breakfast. I didn’t bring a baby carrier, but it turned out for the best. Jax wanted to be down and go, go, going! A big difference from last year when he’d just learned to sit up! I carried him out to the main orchard and then let him explore while Danny picked braeburn and mutsu apples. It was quiet and peaceful – I only saw a few other groups in passing once we were deep in the rows of trees. Like last year, I got to nurse Jax out in sunny nature. It was very sweet and hippie-dippie! At first I …

*Twitch*

I knew when I was doing my hair last time that it would be time to redo it again at the end of September. The only problem is that I always like to have my braids be fresh for vacations, and we’re leaving for California in early November. So the plan was (and is) to redo just a few around my face in early October and then redo everything the last 2 weeks of the month.

My roots aren’t too bad… My hair grows really slow. But because I am only braiding the top few inches (to save time), the loose parts start tangling and dreading up after a couple months. It’s synthetic hair, so I can’t expect miracles! It’s just about to the point now where I’ll have to give up on wearing it loose or in pony tails because it tangles too easily. Lots of French braids, buns, and updos for a week or two!

At least I have fringe (bangs) to add variety. I don’t think Dan is a fan, but they’ve been a welcome change. Half the time I pin them up and the rest of the time I flat iron them down. (Related note: has anyone gotten a mini flat iron for travel? It would be nice to have something like one from Zoe for the trip, but I’m not sure it is worth it. The big flat iron is pretty bulky to pack.) Side note: The reason I have bangs right now is because I had crazy post-pregnancy shedding and am still regrowing the hair around my face. It was already short, so I might as well hide the sticky-up pieces with fringe.

This weekend I need to do the braids around my face cause they are awful and itchy and making me twitch!

Also on for this weekend: apple picking, bread baking and making a big batch of homemade apple butter! Anyone want to come along on Friday for apple picking? I never have good pictures of Jax and I unless I pose and ask Dan to take a picture. It would be fun to have someone else there to take pictures with!

The Dust Will Settle Soon…

Yeah, things are changing here. Here’s the short and sweet of it:

I was losing the battle to try to get 13 years of photos and content re-added to my members after switching it over to WordPress. I was running into a lot of road blocks and running low on time! Since I had to downgrade to one webcam that is part-time (I nurse at the computer, so it has to be off a lot) and not a lot of content was up yet, it wasn’t making sense to keep the password protection up.

Jax took this photo of us...

The password management system was a huge thorn in Danny’s side and was throwing non-stop errors into the logs. The final straw was when Danny recently upgraded PHP on the server. Things broke, and I wasn’t really sad they did. I was ready to say goodbye to ancient (and often unsafe now) code and start fresh.

So here is the final plan… We moved the blog to be the main landing page for the site. If you subscribe to my feed or have the blog bookmarked, you may need to update your links. You can catch the feed here. I will be posting personal diary entries and photos, plus featuring old entries and content from throughout Stvlive’s history several times a week. It’s going to be some serious blast-from-the-past business up in here, people! I think this will be a fun way to gradually add content back to the site.

The webcam is now simple and sweet. Check it out up there at the top of the page! I added a Twitter button so you can say hi if I’m on the camera or just send me a message. Anything with @punquin will get tome right away.

I plan to have the majority of the About Stephanie section done by the end of the weekend, including my updated life story.

The majority of craft and parenting posts will be on my family blog, and I will link to some featured posts regularly. There may be some cross-posting at times, but I’ll try to keep things pretty fresh here.

So… What do you think? And, can you believe I started this site in March of 1998?!

Here are some recent posts over on Imagine Our Life:

Window Shopping

If I could afford it, this Kokopax Samantha Diaper Tote in Flutter and these Minnetonka Fringe Boots would be off my wishlist and on their way to me this very second! I’d use the bag as a combination purse/diaper bag/carry-on for our trip this fall. And, I’ve been looking for gray shoes for 3 years. My gray sweater clogs are looking beat.

What are you currently drooling over?

Jax’s Bathtime Drink

We’ve been practicing drinking from open-top cups in the bathtub where he can spill all he wants. But, silly baby decided it’s easier to drink straight from the tap!
