Our baby boy was born at 8:18 am today. He was 6 lbs 13 oz & 20" long. Full story to come…
I’ve made it past January! Our little man will be a February baby. Danny had been predicting an end-of-Jan birth, but I made it through the weekend with nothing but a whole lot of pre-labor contractions and very little sleep. I have been going back and forth between thinking baby will be a Valentine present or that he will arrive past my 2/18 due date (2/17 if you go by LMP not my early ultrasound). Honestly, I’m super ready to not be pregnant anymore. I’m ready to meet him! So if he wants to show up a little early, I’d be good with that!
I’ve been feeling good for 9 months pregnant. No swelling anymore (I had a bit in my ankles when I was still stressed and commuting to Maryland), though I know that might change. I have problems with my digestive system and other unmentionable things, but nothing I can’t deal with. I feel crampy sometimes, but mostly I am just having lots of Braxton-Hicks contractions 24/7. I don’t sleep much between those and my teaspoon-sized bladder. I’m still going to yoga classes – both gentle yoga and restorative. I have 5 more classes left on my pass, so I should be set for the rest of my pregnancy.
My hospital (and baby’s) are all packed and Danny has starting having me put them in the car when we go out. I don’t have his bag packed yet. I need to stop by CVS today, so I may get him some hospital snacks there (suggested by the hospital that we bring). His bag can’t be fully packed until d-day, as he has inhalers/sprays he has to use every night. But I can get a backpack started for him so it only takes a moment.
Work is busy busy busy and a little tough at times with all the contractions. There really isn’t an end point to what I need to get done before my leave – it’s more of a ‘do as much as you can in the time left’ kind of thing. I am grateful to not be driving to work anymore though. It was making my blood pressure go up. Now I’m back down at 100/60 where I should be.
Time for toast and work!
So I just got back from the OB from my weekly(!!) exam…
So my blood pressure was good – 100/60 now that I’ve stopped commuting to work. I had been stressing way too much the past few weeks. My weight looks good (I’m still almost ALL baby), fundal height exactly right at 37w and baby sounded good once she chased him around for his heart beat (he never sits still!). My Group B Strep test was negative, so I won’t need antibiotics before the birth.
She did an internal exam and it looks like the cramping I’ve been having the past couple of days is doing some work. I am 2cm dilated and 90% effaced(thinned out). She thinks that once my contractions set in for real, I’ll go past 2cm pretty quickly. While my cervix is still pretty far back, I am very thinned out and his head is really, really low. She asked if I knew if my mom had fast labors. All I knew was that we were both a month early and I ended up an emergency c-section because of my cord. I’m interested to hear what my dad says.
So who knows when things will pick up… Right now I just feel like I’m on the edge of getting my period. Crampy and yucky. I could suddenly get a bunch of contractions and go into labor tomorrow, or I could be at the same point next week when I go back to the OB. Danny has been convinced all along that baby will arrive at the end of January. Hmm…
And, OW it hurts to get an internal when you are dilated! Felt like she was in there up to my tonsils! TMI, maybe?
9 months.. Can you believe it? On Wednesday, I will be 37 weeks and baby will be considered full-term. I am so ready to meet him and not be pregnant anymore, that he is more than welcome to come out after Wednesday! Danny is sure I’ll go early – around the full moon at the end of the month. I tend to prepare for the “worst” and am expecting, like most first-time moms, that I’ll go overdue. I honestly can’t wrap my brain around getting even bigger over the next 3 weeks. i mean, look at that belly!!
While I have a lot of pregnancy ailments, I am doing really well. I’m still able to go walking (when I can find a warm, dry place to do it) with just some ligament and hip pain. I get a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions that can slow my pace down, but they aren’t painful. I can still go to yoga, it is just getting harder and harder each week. It’s like yoga with a bowling ball attached to my belly. I don’t sleep much… it is painful to roll over and I have to pee ever couple of hours. But, I’m grateful whenever the sleep I do get adds up to over 4 hours.
I have my hospital bag packed enough that we are good to go. I have a few things to add, but I could survive without them. I don’t have bag packed for Danny yet. He has items that can’t be packed up because he uses them every day. I’ll have to figure that one out, because he’s not allowed to leave me alone at the hospital during labor. I’ll need him too much! We went to our childbirth class last weekend. There was plenty I knew and plenty I learned. I think the most beneficial thing was that is was given by our hospital and we learned so much about their beliefs and procedures. I was really glad to find out they are very pro-breastfeeding and have lactation consultants available. I wish we could have toured their facilities, but they have stopped them due to H1N1 season.
This past week was my last week of driving an hour to Maryland to work in the corporate office. It was nice to work closely with everyone for a couple months, but I was starting to have problems with the long drive and fears of going into labor on the beltway. On my last drive home, I came close to passing out at one point because I hadn’t eaten enough that day. And, my bladder was not happy whenever I hit bad traffic.
We have enough items purchased for baby that we are ready for him. We did have to buy the majority of the major things off our registry ourselves. The rest we’ll have to pick away at over time.
Starting sending a lot of happy labor vibes my way so this little one doesn’t make his appearance late!
So I’ve somehow made it to 8 months/32 weeks! Wow!
I’ve been feeling good. Gaining a good amount of weight for my small size, blood pressure on the low side of average, doing yoga as often as work and weather allow.
I had my appointment today. Baby’s heart beat sounded great, but I talked to the doctor about the fact that he has been laying transverse (sideways instead of head down) for about 4 months. He really, really likes it in that position. She told me that while he has time to move on his own, sometimes they don’t. She would be willing to try to turn him at 37 weeks, but Danny and I didn’t like the sound of it. I would have to have an epidural, then they would manually try to turn him. If he doesn’t tolerate it (i.e. – his heart rate starts dropping) they would do an emergency c-section right then and there. I am really hoping to have the opportunity to have a natural labor. Having such a scary-sounding procedure that may lead to a c-section and may lead to him turning back to transverse anyway just didn’t sound good to us. We agreed that we would just let nature take it’s course and mentally prepare for the possibility of a c-section when the time comes if he hasn’t turned.
The doctor told us we could try icing baby’s head to get him to turn. She did a quick ultrasound scan to confirm which side his head is on (my left). So I will have to start trying that. He won’t be happy about it, I bet! He even hates my cold hands…
Beyond that, everything looks great and I’ll be back in 2 weeks. It was really hard to get an appointment scheduled, so I had to do it on one of my office days. I’ll have to switch things around with work.
Baby is currently beating the heck our of my ribs. I think he is trying to climb them. Time for dinner!
I like a bit of snow… I don’t like 2 feet of snow! Last weekend we got completely buried in an early blizzard. It started Friday night and didn’t stop until Sunday. The poor puppies are rather distraught that there is no grass or sidewalks anymore. There is barely a street because they didn’t do a good enough job plowing a lot of the road in our neighborhood and they froze over. But, Benny LOVED playing the the backyard. He leapt around like a deer and played hide-n-seek with his tennis ball. Every dive into the snow added to the little snowballs hanging off of his fur. He looked like the abominable snow man from the chest down. I had to camp out in front of a heater with towels and a brush to get him clean again. (Slide Show)
I can’t believe I’ve made it far enough to have just had my baby shower! This pregnancy has certainly not flown by. But, the time for baby’s arrival is getting closer and closer regardless!
The second weekend of the month, our dear friends Johnathan and Mel flew all the way out from California for our baby shower. Mel and my good friend Laura were the organizers. (I will admit that I picked the party’s theme and a few other things…) It was important to me that we had a co-ed shower that was more of a party. More than half of my friends are guys, and I really wanted Danny by my side.
The party was great! Mel and Laura outdid themselves, and I hope I get to repay the favor some day. Danny and I arrived at our neighborhood’s community center to find it perfectly decorated in my aqua and orange rock n’ roll theme. There was an amazing spread of food, thanks to Laura and our friend Rebecca, super tasty cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes, and a craft table for decorating baby onesies. (My craft tables at the parties I host are rather notorious, so it was fitting that they have one for me!)
We kept the games to a minimum, but they were a lot of fun! The first was to see who could drink beer from a baby bottle the fastest. Hah! Obviously, I didn’t not partake. The other game was that everyone cut a length of ribbon to what they though my baby bump size was. My adorable little niece Cassie got it dead on and was the winner!
I was really sleepy by the time we were to open presents. Cassie helped Danny and I open them. We got so many adorable clothes and baby books, as well as some practical items. (Slide Show)
The best part of the weekend was having our friends stay with us. I miss them so much now that they are gone!
After the shower, we had to take stock of what we need before baby arrives. While we got great stuff, there was a lot of important things missing. We pooled Christmas money and a few returns of duplicates and ordered some of the bigger items off of our registries. We are registered at Target, Amazon and Babies R Us if you want to get something for the little one in lieu of a Christmas gift for me. Babies need so much stuff!

There’s a little human moving around in there!!!
This week we had a free 4D ultrasound (as a thank you for choosing the place we did for our big anatomy scan at 20 weeks). It was pretty freaking amazing to see baby moving around in there. He was chilling out mostly, but he was all about opening and closing his little hand. At one point, his big foot comes up by his head. Better there than on my bladder! He is currently breech, with his head on my left, back arching over the top of my uterus, butt on the right and feet stomping all over my bladder. You better turn over soon boy!
Time is finally moving fast! 28 weeks… 7 months. Wow! I am finally visibly pregnant. I seem to have relapsed into feeling queasy and tired all the time. But besides that and a pulled muscle in my lower back, I feel good.
My baby shower is just over 2 weeks away. Yikes! For those looking for our registries, we only did them at Amazon.com and Target. My next doctor’s appointment is in early December at 30 weeks, then I start my every-2-weeks appointments. Time will go even faster at that point!
I had a great time shooting with Renee on Saturday! She got so many pretty shots… I have a few photos that her husband Michael took to go through still, but here is what I have so far!
