Catching Up

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

I need to catch up here!

As you’ve read, we traded my car in for a 2007 Santa Fe. It had the most basic of basic stereos, so we went last week to Charlottesville to have Crutchfield install and navigation/stereo combo. We were happy to get to see friends who moved out there as well. Initially, Crutchfield called us to say they didn’t have the unit they were supposed to reserve for us, but we ended up with a lower model (at a discount) that suited us better. We also installed a back-up camera which makes me feel a lot safer. I was having a hard time seeing out the back when I reversed. In the end, they weren’t able to finish the install – the unit is in place and works, but they didn’t have what they needed to get my steering wheel controls hooked in. Right now I have to lean a lot to change stations and fix the volume. We’ll have to go back again to get the rest done when they get the parts in.

On Tuesday night I finally got to see Nine Inch Nails!! I’d been wanting to see them forever. Back on our wedding anniversary, Danny bought really great tickets. I didn’t realize until we got there that we’d been in the first row of seats! The show was so, so great! I enjoyed all three bands: Street Sweeper Social Club (with RAtM’s guitarist), NIN, and Jane’s Addiction. I’m not a huge JA fan, but the singer was just so happy to be there entertaining us that it couldn’t help but rub of on us. And, Dave Navarro is so good and playing the aloof, douchey guitar-guy that it was a lot of fun to watch. I took photos on my cell phone, which would have been fine, but I kept turning on the keyboard lock while it was saving them. Apparently, this makes the photos save at a much lower size and quality. Bummer.

Genius

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I hadn’t really tried the iTunes Genius feature yet. Here is what I got when I chose In This Moment’s “Forever”. Looks like a good mix, except I don’t know why that Leslie Roy song is in there. It’s really pop-y. I have that one because it was one of the 20 free tracks that came with Rock Band 2. I try to keep RB tracks on my iPod so I learn them easier. It’s hard to sing a song you don’t know.

Anyone else tried the Genius playlist feature?

Mayham, originally uploaded by punquin.

Yesterday we slept in (~10:30 am) before getting up and dressed to head out to Nissan Pavillion for the Mayham Music Festival. Normally I’m to one to say yes to all-day festivals. Danny gets tickets all year for shows, and I always have first dibs on one. I skip the festivals because it is just too drawn out for me. But, this time I *had* to go… Disturbed was one of the headliners!

We headed out at around 12:30 pm once Ivan got to our house. We met Tony in the parking lot and pretended like we weren’t tail-gating for an hour or two (you aren’t supposed to, but everyone does anyway.) There was a crazy long line to get in! Lots of Hot Topic kiddies (Hot Topic was one of the main sponsors, so I guess they were in the right place!)

We had been hoping to see Black Tide – one of the first bands to go on, but it seemed like they skipped them. All of the band afterwards were slightly early as a result. Hmm. There wasn’t anyone else we were interested in on the side stages, so we got a spot of the lawn of the main stage as soon as it was opened.

The first band on the main stage was Mastadon. Their drums are riffs are pretty sick. I had been looking forward to hearing them just to be impressed. Dragonforce was after them. They played well – fast – but, their songs went on forever and weren’t my taste.

I think this concert/festival takes the record for the most people to come up and ask me about my hair. Seriously. Anyway, at around 8:30 pm the Disturbed set started. It was so kick ass! They sounded great and played a good mix of older songs and stuff off their newest album. At one point, David Draiman (the lead singer) stopped the show to announce that a little 9-year-old girl in the pit was the cutest thing he’d ever seen. He had her brought up on stage and told everyone she had been singing a long to every song. He was super sweet to her and told her to cover her ears when he said “the bad words”. He let her watch the rest of the show from the side stage. The whole set was great and I was rocking out the whole time. Many devil horns were thrown and many fists were in the air. He had thousands of people yelling “Fuck!” in unison (cover your ears, little girl! yes, i like angry music.)

The final band was Slip Knot, who I don’t care about. We happily left early to avoid the traffic.

Music and Photos

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

I’ve been mini-posting. Both to my Twitter and my Flickr. You can follow them on Livejournal here (twitter) and here (phone cam pics).

Since discovering the all-Led Zeppelin channel on XM radio, that has been all I’ve listened to in the car. I can’t get sick of hearing them There are a handful of artists I could list to all day. Today, I’ve had Bob Marley on. I could also listen to Depeche Mode and the Beatles forever. Who could you listen to non-stop without getting sick of?

With the new year approaching, and a new camera in my possession, I want to start a 365 Project (though will it be 366 next year?). At first I thought it involved taking a self-portrait every day, but after reading further, I see it goes deeper than than. The photos should represent your life at that moment. I’ll need to figure out an easy way to carry my heavy new camera around more often. The pros of buying the sturdy (but expensive) tote/purse I want are adding up. Hm… I think I’ll be posting the photos to my Flickr in their own gallery, but I’ll have to decide if I want to do anything else (like a feed on Livejournal, a Flickr group, or mailing list.) What do you think?

Yesterday I filled in helping bathe dogs, do nail trims, make dinners and check dogs out that were going home from their holiday stays. No tips after over 40 tips! Geez.

YouTube Tunes

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

I am making up my own meme, beacause this week, I’ve been addicted to watching music videos on YouTube. Scroll on by if you don’t care.

I’m always interested in expanding my musical horizons and learning what music people are in to. Nowadays, you can find just about any song on YouTube – whether the artist has made an official video of not.

Post this in your journal if you’d like to share your musical tastes with me. If you aren’t on my friend’s list, add a comment here so I can find you. Maybe I can make some new friends while I’m at it… :)

Here is a list of 10 songs I like to turn up loud right now (in no particular order).

  1. Stone Sour – “Through Glass”
I like this song… Mellow and pretty. Dude has some split ends, though.
  2. Nine Inch Nails – “Only”
Good song… I can’t listen to it without singing along. But, I posted it because I love the video. It’s a really creative idea.
  3. Tool – “The Pot”
This song has been stuck in my head for a month. It was amazing hearing it live. This isn’t the real video – it is a Monty Python cartoon.
  4. Bullet For My Valentine – “Tears Dont Fall”
I listen to this song cranked up loud with the windows down in my car.
  5. Cobra Starship – “Snakes On A Plane (Bring It)”
Guilty Pleasure Alert!!! Come on, bring it!
  6. Hurt – “Falls Apart”
I love this song, but I don’t think they’ve made a video for it yet. I went to their MySpace page to check and found out they were playing 9:30 Club this month with Alice in Chains. I told Dan I wanted to go, and he found us some tickets on Ebay. Woo!
  7. Puscifer – “The Undertaker “
The video does nothing for me, since I didn’t watch “Underworld”, but the song kicks ass. Seriously, can Maynard even make a bad song? I don’t think it’s possible. This song makes me want to go out dancing. Who’s driving?
  8. 30 Seconds to Mars – “The Kill”
I’ve liked this song a lot since I first heard it. I knew that the video was supposed to be really good, but I didn’t see it until I made this list. Who has time for Mtv? (And do they even play music anymore?)
  9. Three Days Grace – “Animal”
It’s a catchy song that is fun to sing along to in my car. I’d probably scare the people driving around me, if it weren’t for the fact that no one ever drives with their windows open on beautiful days but me.
  10. Disturbed – “The Sickness”
It was too hard picking only 10 songs, but I decided to post something a little harder. The funny sounds he makes amuse me. Waaahhhk! Whaaahhk!

I’m sure I’ll be making more musical posts in the future, now that I have a way to share the music easily. (That is of course until the music industry freaks out and takes all the songs down.) I have a lot more bookmarked than 10, so I’ll be back…
