Yesterday, since our snorkeling trip was cancelled (the only other trip they had was Thursday – the day we leave), we just hung out at the hotel. We had breakfast, then some pool time (in the shade since I’m out of my main sunscreen already.) We went back to the room around 1 pm and I laid down for a nap. I was feeling bad all of a sudden. I dozed fittfully then dragged myself to the shower at around 4. it was too early for the dinner buffet, so we got a snack by the pool. After wasting some time in our room (though it wasn’t a waste), we went to dinner. We walked around the resort a bit afterwards. I had barely eaten dinner because I started getting a stomach ache. it was really bad when we got back to our room. I dad on bed for a while, tossing and turning from tummy pains and sunburn and the hard bed.

I gave up on sleep at 7 am this morning when the aches and pains in every part of my body were too much. I alternated reading out on the balconey and having unpleasant bathroom time. I have a headache, stomach ache, leg bone pains, chills and I’m super light-headed. I don’t know what’s going on with me.

At one point our on the balconey, I looked up to see a massive cruise ship blocking my view of the ocean. It had Mickey Mouse ears on it. When it’s horn blasted “When you wish upon a star” Danny came out to see it too.

Now I’m wrapped up in a blanket feeling chills and pains and wishing I felt better.

Once my tummy meds kicked in, I decided to try to go ahead with Danny suggestion for our afternoon. He wanted us to walk the beach down to the mall in the marina, buy more sun block and see a movie. I wasn’t so sure about my ability to walk a mile or two (I need to look up the distance when I have Internet) on the sloped sand when I hadn’t eaten all day. But, I made it – one foot in front of the other. At least my digestive system was happier.

We saw “Zohan” and enjoyed it. It was nice having our two drinks and popcorn only cost about 65 pesos (1 us $ = 10 or 11 pesos). After the movie, we cabbed it back to the hotel, because it was the hotest part of the day.

We relaxed and read on the balconey for a while, then headed down to the pool for a swim around 6 pm. I took my daily shower afterwards (it’s easier to shower in the evening when you have to coat yourself in sunscreen all day.) We hit the buffet for dinner and I actually ate – some plain pasta, peas and bread. Then sopapillas for dessert.

I’m still super sore and achy – unfortunately, I think it’s just the slab of a bed we have. And, I have the same sinus headache I’ve had for days. But, overall, I’m in much better shape than last night.

We are currency laying out by the pool – one of many. This one is a swim bar and I can see the ocean in front and beside me. I can just barely reach a random wireless connection out here, but I can’t do anything when I do get connected. We’ve spent the lay lounging and relaxing so far. So nice!

Wow, Our room is amazing! We have a suite at the Riu Santa Fe. There’s a sitting room, a bedroom area on a raised platform, a huge walk-in closet… Then the bathroom… The tub is a huge jetted one with big columns and an arch looking into the bathroom. The bathroom could host a ballroom dancing class. there are separate rooms for the toilet/bidet (you do wha with that??) and shower. Everything is beautifully tiled. When you go out on the balcony there’s an amazing view of the pools and the ocean. But wait, there’s more! On the left of the balcony, there is a spiral staircase. You go up and find yourself on a huge rooftop terrace with a raised area with a hot tub and lounge chairs. I was in awe.

We ate at the main buffet restaurant for dinner. Mexican theme night there. After my shower, we took care of important marital business. Now we are in bed. I’m so tired from barely sleeping the past few days. I can hear a wedding party going on nearby.

Estoy cansada.

Leaving Tomorrow!

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

I have no time to write, so I will make a list!

  • Tomorrow afternoon, we fly to California. We are crashing with J and Mel fr the night (thanks guys!) before flying to Cabo(!!) the next morning. We will be in Cabo (and most likely offline) until Thursday afternoon, when we return to Cali. After that, we’ll be heading to the hotel where Dan’s brother is getting married over that weekend.

  • I’ve been so busy with last minute things for work this week (I am the only graphic/web designer supporting corporate and 35 franchisees) that I’ve been told to work from home. I get more done here because there’s no commute and no distractions.
  • I’ve been on a re-braiding blitz for the past few days. I have 106 total, and as of this moment, I have 22 left to redo. Initially, I was leaving 8″ – 10″ loose at the ends because the extension hair I’m using is a lot like human hair. But, I’m not used to tangles and frizz and flyaways… Ugh! Danny and I agreed that I’d never be able to keep it nice through all our activities in Cabo, so I was up till 3:30 am last night adding a few inches of plaiting to each braid. Annoying, because I’m using weave thread to tie them off, so I have to use a seam ripper to un-tie them. I worked from in bed, and I made it though 40 of the 80 I had done so far. Over the course of today, I’ve managed to do the other 40 while at my desk working. Still have 22 full braids to redo, though.
  • I have no idea what to pack! And, I don’t want to leave the puppies. :( But, I need a vacation, that’s for sure.
  • I will try to update twitter and flickr as much as I can, but I don’t expect to have internet in Cabo. So, my updates may all come during my CA time. I’m not bringing a laptop – just my iPod which has email and a browser. Any photos I take that aren’t on my phone will have to wait until we return.

Is it June yet?

This entry will contain a lot of girly, vanity kind of stuff… So, pass on through if you find that stuff dull!

My most exciting news is that we are going on vacation next month. I can’t wait!! We already had to be in California mid-June for Danny’s brother’s wedding, so we decided to go to Cabo for a few days prior. I’m really excited – I’ve only been to Cancun (and a day trip to Cozumel) so far. We opted to book an all-inclusive resort for our stay, as we did in Cancun. It is hard to feed me in a foreign country, so having miles of free buffets works well. There is always salad, veggies, etc… Google Maps doesn’t have it shown yet,as it is very new. But, there is a photo and video here in the blank spot where the hotel is now. The hotel next door is by the same company (I wonder if we can use their facilities too…) and has some photos posted of the amazing views.

I’ve bought a couple inexpensive bikinis from Kohls and Target and I am currently trying out a new “gradual tan” daily lotion that actually doesn’t smell like dirty shoes. I’m having problems, however, finding cute skirts to wear. I have pretty wrap skirts, but I’d love to find some simple cotton or linen skirts. I can only find short, 80′s throw-backs or ones that are way too large. A question: what are some good clothes and shoes to pack if we plan to visit a few night clubs? The dirty hippie in me is clueless about these things.

I have my dress for the wedding, and it is currently at the tailor’s being taken in on top. I love it! I was worried that it has too much white to be worn as a wedding guest, but I’ve yet to have anyone think it was inappropriate. The groom though it was fine, though I never heard back from the bride. I already had silver kitten heels and I have a silver wrap. However, I don’t have a clutch that will work. It’s an evening wedding, and I assume silver would work best. My only silver bag is way too beaded and busy to work and can’t fit both a p&s camera and my phone. I don’t want to spend more than $20 and it needs to stand the test of time for a few years (as this dress will). Any suggestions. If I have to order something, it needs to be asap!

One other thing I’m nearly as excited about is my hair! I’ve had really awful extensions lately. The brand of hair I’ve used for years on my open-ended braids no longer makes my blond, and the brands I’ve tried over the past year have been dreadful (literally!) My ends are a disgusting, ratty mess and it all tangles together. So, after much research, I finally ordered some really nice mono-fiber extension hair from Europe. It is still synthetic, but it is supposed to be extremely high quality. I will be able to leave long sections of it loose (I hope!) and even style it on low heat (though I have no rollers). I bought my first hair brush in 8 years in preparation! The hair arrived fast from their Canadian distributor and I am dying to put it in! But, I need to wait till the end of the month so my roots are nice for vacation and the wedding. Must… not.. shave… head… Argh! I am thinking about re-sectioning the front of my hair to add a diagonal side part. That would give me the option of sweeping the front across my forehead fivehead and pulling it back. Here is a picture of me experimenting. Keep in mind, I am probably going to leave double the amount of hair loose at the bottom of each braid, so long as it works out. What do you think?

Since I have questions for you all sprinkled throughout this entry, I shall post them again in an easy, list format. :)

  1. Where can I find cute, simple skirts that are around knee-length and in size xs/s or 0-2? Cotton or linen preferred.
  2. What should I pack to wear to night clubs? Shoe help needed too! Photo examples?
  3. Where can I find an inexpensive evening clutch large enough to fit my phone and a p&s camera that matches my dress? Silver is an option and probably even preferred.
  4. Should I bother adding a side-part option to my hair?

Well, aren’t I needy today? I need to get back to work. This entry has been in progress off-and-on all day!

I’m Back!

With Danny, originally uploaded by punquin.

Helloooo…. I got back from California on Friday and have been using the weekend to catch up on both sleep and chores.

I have a run-down of the trip already started. I’ll try to finish it and post it tomorrow. For now, you can click on the collage below to see my trip photos.

Almost Trip Time!

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

So, Danny is in California for a class right now. On Friday, I will be flying out to join him and start our week-long vacation. I am alternating between calm and a bundle of nerves. I’ve never been away from the puppy before and I haven’t traveled alone in many years.

Since my brain is in list mode:

  • Our god friend Laura will be house-sitting for us while we are gone. The dogs love her and I trust her completely. I do worry about the puppy being locked up in the kitchen for 10 hours every day. China is old and lazy, and perfectly content to nap and chew on her feet all day, but Benny usually comes to work with me and has only been home alone that long on random weekends. He is always fine, but as he is in the middle of his doggy “teenage years” he is going to be like a cyclone when Laura gets home from work at night. Danny vetoed the idea of a dog walker for him. I checked with another friend, but understandably, his schedule didn’t allow for any afternoon dog walks. I wish I knew more people in my area, but very few of my friends have moved further from DC as we have. I’m sure the dogs will be fine. They will probably have to do many laps before bed to wear themselves out. Hopefully we’ll still have grass and hardwood floors left when we return!
  • The other thing causing me anxiety is the fact that I have to take a cab to the airport on my own. I’m really scared about this. I’m worried they won’t show up and I’ll miss my flight. I’m scared that I’m going to be kidnapped (irrational, I know). And, I have no idea what to tip. Any ideas? And, does anyone in the area know of a super safe cab company? I’m flying out of IAD. Ugh! Laura kindly offered to take me to the airport before taking the dogs out on her way to work. Phew!
  • Sunday night I started redoing my 86 braids. Yes, it was left a little last minute, but the past month has been super busy and I knew it was possible to do it in 5 days. By Monday night I had 26 done. Tuesday night I had 56 done. I did 3 this morning before Benny insisted I get dressed and take him outside. So, I have 27 left. They are all in the back, so a little slower to do, but I can make it happen. None of them are badly dreaded since I didn’t leave it 4 months like usual. I doubt I’ll get too many done today since I will be in the office until about 7 pm and have errands/chores tonight. If I can get it down to 15 or less left for my last day here, that would be perfect.
  • I’ve been splitting up all my pre-trip chores over this week. Yesterday I went to the drug store in the morning before work to get the toiletries I was lacking. This morning I filled my gas tank (so I wouldn’t come home to an empty tank) and went to the bank for deposits and travel money. Tonight on the way home I will stop and get crickets for the geckos and bunny food for mini. Last night I got a lot of the trash (Dan forgot to take it out after the party) out the the corner of the backyard by the garage. Tonight I’ll have to walk outside the fence to the garage and open with the remote since I don’t have a garage key. Then I can put all the trash out for trash night. I have to clean out the fridge and pantry so nothing gets rotten while we’re gone. And, I have to use my She-ra strength to take the recycling out front. I’ll probably start on laundry and dishes tonight then finish them tomorrow while working from home. Tomorrow, of course, I pack. Busy!!
  • I’ve been craving a pbj since last night, but we have no bread. I don’t want to buy a loaf that will just go bad while I’m gone.
  • I’m actually glad I have an office I can come into when I want to. It is lonely at home, and at least I get to be around other people (and dogs) this way.
